UKFT member The Natural Fibre Company, a specialist woollen mill in Launceston, Cornwall launches a series of new initiatives to expand its range of sustainable products and services.

Established in 2005, The Natural Fibre Company is a vertically integrated woollen mill and the only company in the country that spins both wool and worsted yarns under the same roof. The South-west based business provides a wide range of fibre processing services including fibre, sourcing, carding, woollen and worsted spinning and finishing. The services all take place in its Launceston mill, with sustainability, traceability and provenance being at the core of what the business does.
The Natural Fibre Company launches new collections of limited-edition repurposed yarns
The Natural Fibre Company has recently launched a series of new initiatives that expand its range of sustainable products and services. This includes a collection of limited-edition yarns repurposed from its research and development trials are now available on the Natural Fibre Company’s online shop. The waste by-products can be used for stuffing, padding and craft activities, as well as ready-made accessories that have been designed and knitted on a hand-powered knitting machine and hand-finished.

With sustainability being a core company value, Colin Spencer Halsey, CEO of The Natural Fibre Company says:
“We’re transforming our waste into new products for a net zero tomorrow. We achieved our carbon accreditation with a validated carbon footprint in 2022 and as part of our commitment to care for the environment we’re implementing several initiatives including the online shop, with some energy efficient measures for the mill also planned”
Blacker Yarns
Created as a sister company in 2008, Blacker Yarns features a wide range of quality yarns, with the shared passion for 100% Natural British Wool. A new Blacker Yarns mill outlet has been installed onsite in Cornwall to display its extensive range of British-Breed hand knitting and crochet yarns, offering customers a personal shopping experience.
The outlet is open from Monday to Thursday, 11am-2pm throughout the year, by appointment also.
Colin went on to say:
“Many of our customers tell us that they prefer to shop locally and that they like to see and touch the products, with the in-person shopping experience being part of their enjoyment. Our new, permanent display enables us to highlight our best-selling, Blacker Yarns product ranges, all made under one roof here in Cornwall, to those customers.”
As well as designing and making its own unique, pure wool and classic ranges, many Blacker Yarns products have a Cornish theme, such as the Tamar Lustre yarn. Additionally, products also include limited-edition and rare British breed yarns, such as the North Ronaldsay, Manx Loaghtan and Coloured Ryeland.
