EU’s Deforestation Regulation implementation date to be delayed

16/10/2024

The European Commission (EC) has announced a proposed delay to the implementation of the Deforestation Regulation which was due to come into effect in December this year.

The change to the implementation dates has yet to be approved by the European Parliament and Council. If approved, the expected implementation dates of December 2024 and June 2025 would push the deadlines to 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 micro, small and medium operators. The additional 12 months is intended to serve as a phasing-in period to ensure proper and effective implementation. A new FAQ document has been issued, in addition to the promised guidance document. Information for the general public on the Commission website has also been updated. Read more here.
