Richard James is a Savile Row tailor founded in 1992 that offers seasonal ready-to-wear collections, as well as bespoke and made-to-measure tailoring. With stores in London and New York, Richard James is praised around the world for its contemporary interpretation of timeless tailoring. To this day, it is the only Savile Row tailor to have won the British Fashion Council’s (BFC) Designer of the Year award.

Its bespoke operation has moved temporarily to a new location in Richard James’ flagship Savile Row store, while its Clifford Street premises are being refurbished. Sean Dixon, Richard James’ Co-founder and Managing Director, said:

“The plans are being kept strictly under wraps, but the Clifford Street store is scheduled to re-open with a fresh, all-new expanded interior in the January of 2024.”

Richard James recently launched its new AW23 ready-to-wear collection, available online and arriving in-store in London and New York. Featuring velvet evening jackets, silk ties and long wool coats, the Covert collection is inspired by the world of espionage.

“Our Covert collection skulks beneath the broad brim of its wool-felt trilby and slinks back to peak-Cold War London and a slippery, cloak and dagger scene of double agents, dead letter boxes, invisible ink and immeasurable microdots.” – Richard James

The range also goes back to Richard James’ roots, celebrating British textiles with a contemporary twist:

“Traditional British textile designs are revived and intensified with colour and bold recontextualization. Savile Row’s traditions are respected, but its conventions are swiftly rejected… Sartorial standards are skewed to create a singularly sensationalistic take on the timeless.” – Richard James  

Despite its growing international presence, Richard James remains a quintessentially British company. Sean Dixon commented:

“The UK fashion and textile industries stand for innovation and quality and are two of its biggest success stories. We now have an international presence, but we remain a quintessentially British company and use British textiles and British craftsmanship in the production of each of our ready-to-wear collections and our bespoke and made-to-measure tailoring, and we simply wouldn’t be what we are without them.”
