The homeware and accessories brand Donna Wilson combines patterns, colours and a vivid imagination to create curious creatures, knitwear and other odd objects. Its products include cheerful animals knitted at Donna Wilson’s London studio and quirky ceramics decorated by hand in Stoke-on-Trent, specially designed to make people smile.
Donna Wilson’s DNA is made of a playful sense of humour, a love of nature and a focus on textiles and crafts. Founded by Donna Wilson in 2003, the brand is celebrating a major milestone this year. Jess Fawcett, Sales & Marketing Manager at Donna Wilson, said:
“2023 also marks a major milestone for Donna Wilson – twenty years since she launched her East London design studio! We have lots of exciting plans in the making, including limited edition anniversary products, fantastic designer collaborations, and a career-spanning experiential exhibition and retail space to coincide with the London Design Festival this September.”
The company has collaborated with numerous brands over the past 20 years, including Hermès, LeSportsac and Mamas&Papas. Its collections can be found in over 30 countries.
Donna Wilson’s team currently features seven people in its East London studio and an ever-growing team at its new micro knitting factory, the Knit Shop in Dundee, Scotland. Donna Wilson commented:
“I’ve always been passionate about British manufacturing. Growing up in Aberdeenshire, I still remember the closure of our local knit factory. Not only did people lose their jobs, but so many skills were lost too.
Setting up the Knit Shop is my small bit to keep the tradition of knitwear and textile production in Scotland alive, so that these precious skills are not lost forever. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time now, but the doors of the Knit Shop are now finally open for business.”
Most of Donna Wilson’s knitted products are manufactured at the Knit Shop. With three state-of-the-art Shima Seiki knitting machines, this new facility allows the brand to offer a complete range of services to other designers and businesses, from programming and sampling through to production-at-scale.
Jess Fawcett said:
“As we continue to grow and scale our business, the knowledge that UKFT can offer us is invaluable, not to mention the benefits of being connected with so many other UK-based companies.”
