An apprenticeship combines paid work with study and training. The apprentice receives training from all levels of the business and is coached by a senior employee, whilst working towards an industry recognised qualification. Whether you are just getting started or looking for a change, an apprenticeship will support you to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work in the fashion and textiles sector.

5 things to know about apprenticeships
- They are a great way to discover a sector you are interested in and to acquire in-demand skills
- An apprentice typically earns an industry recognised qualification in 2 to 4 years
- The apprentice has no student debt to worry about, as the training is funded by the government and the employer!
- The apprentice must spend a minimum of 20% of their contracted hours in training
- Apprenticeships include paid employment and annual leave

There are different levels of apprenticeships
- level 2 and 3: equivalent to GCSE and A level
- level 4 and 5: equivalent to a foundation degree
- level 6 and 7: equivalent to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
To become an apprentice, you must:
- Be aged 16 or over
- Not be in full-time education
- Be based in England
Apprenticeships are also available for those based outside of England, in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
