Noir Velocity was founded by two friends who share a passion for active sports and the great outdoors whilst both juggling busy professional lives. Their adopted personal mantra is ‘go anywhere, do anything’. The London-based functional clothing brand was launched in March 2022.

Launched in March 2022, Noir Velocity is a London-based functional clothing brand. It combines technical fabrics and natural fibres to produce durable and resistant products. Imagined for their customers’ daily life, its designs are smart enough to be worn with day-to-night outfits.

My business partner’s background is in… design and my background is in recruitment.

We decided to start our business because… Noir Velocity came into being as a lockdown project between two friends who share a passion for active sports and the great outdoors whilst both juggling busy professional lives. Out cycling together, they bemoaned the new lockdown uniform of leggings and leisurewear, planting the seed for a new genre of clothing.

Our adopted personal mantra is “go anywhere, do anything” and our clothing collection has been borne out of the wish to buy less, but buy better… Each of our concepts has been created with performance, comfort and longevity at heart and our clothing transitions from commute, to work, to play, just as seamlessly as you do.

As a future thinking brand, we embrace cutting edge technology, innovative and sustainable practises and materials and are committed to researching and partnering with suppliers to bring our customers clothing that performs brilliantly and lasts beyond a season.

Something that really helped us get our business off the ground was… partnering with our first UK manufacturer who worked with us to turn our ideas into reality using beautiful Italian yarns and 3D printing technology resulting in zero waste.

One thing that’s going really well is… engagement with our early adopters. We meet so many wonderful people who inspire and challenge us.

An area of business I’d like to gain more knowledge of is… measuring the sustainability of different supply chains and new biomaterials.

A UKFT Rise subscriber I find inspiring is… all those who are looking at fashion’s big problems, establishing authentic alternatives within a circular system, such as iinouiio and Last Yarn.

Something happening in the industry that’s inspiring us right now is… the circular fashion industry as a regenerative system in which garments are circulated for as long as their maximum value is retained and then returned safely to the biosphere when they are no longer of use.

One thing we wish we’d known before launching is… supply lead times and MOQs.

Success for us looks like… people wearing our clothes well, loving them, living in them and being happy in them.

UKFT Rise is a free-to-join community of early-stage (under 3 years trading) fashion and textile businesses looking to build a network of supportive like-minded people. We also welcome anyone who is thinking of starting a fashion/textile company in the near future.
