Venice, 27th – 28th of October 2022
The first international summit dedicated to the transition of the fashion sector to a sustainable future took place last week, in Venice. Leaders from the Italian fashion industry and representatives from brands such as Fendi and Prada, as well as from small, family-run suppliers, gathered to discuss the future of the industry.
The aim of this two-day event was to create a roadmap to overhaul supply chains, according to sustainable values and to lead the way to reduce the environmental and social impact of the fashion sector.
Although the summit focused on Italy, this ambition is shared by the global fashion and textile industry. The question that now arises is: how can we accelerate the transition to a sustainable future? Beyond suffering from complex supply chain issues and lack of data, the fashion industry notoriously maintains insular and traditional values.
Making this sustainable future a reality is challenging – which makes these summits essential to start taking steps in the right direction.
UKFT works on behalf of the UK fashion and textile industry to ensure that relevant policies are created in the UK, in Europe and globally. These include schemes that support businesses on financial, social and environmental sustainability levels.
