UKFT joins US – UK Dialogue on the Future of Atlantic Trade in Aberdeen

03/05/2022

UKFT took part in the US – UK Dialogue on the Future of Atlantic Trade in Aberdeen on 25 April, representing the interests of the UK fashion and textile sector as transantlantic discussions progress. This followed an initial meeting in Maryland, Baltimore on 21-22 March earlier in the year.

The UK’s relationship with the United States is important for the UK fashion and textile industry, representing the UK’s largest export market after the EU. The US market for fashion and textiles continues to be of interest to UK businesses and is recovering well post pandemic. The UK has demonstrated itself as a reliable business partner and source of UK design and or UK-manufactured responsible, sustainable fashion and textiles.

UKFT is keen to secure a trade agreement on behalf of members and took part in this event to ensure a mutually beneficial agreement can be achieved, which drives sustainable and responsible manufacturing and design of fashion and textiles.

UKFT was part of the Trade and Environment Roundtable, alongside representatives from Trades Union Congress (TUC), Google, Brown-Forum, the City of London Corporation, the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester.

During the event, the Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan discussed the importance of trade for creating jobs and spreading economic opportunities throughout the UK.
