UKFT Member Loomi is a new innovative clothing brand designed for life on and off the trails, which is engineered and tested in Scotland.

The range includes a technical Merino baselayer, a beanie hat and Merino socks.

The brand was created by Anne Weir in 2021 following 30 years’ experience in the fashion and sportswear industry at companies including Russell Athletic, Pringle of Scotland, W.L. Gore & Associates (makers of GORE-TEX fabric) and Rapha Racing.

She created Loomi based on the principles of functionality, all-day comfort, performance and durability, as well as being made to last.

The garments are made by Loomi’s partners in Europe, which she has selected based on their innovative, transparent and responsible business models. Another key focus is limiting the use of unnecessary plastic in production and for the end user.

Loomi aims to encourage and inspire a healthy outlook and awareness of nature by organising local trail runs and run clinics from its base in the Scottish Borders.

Anne explains: “My knowledge and expertise really did help when it came to creating an amazing product, but it’s my passion to help people that is the real inspiration behind the brand.

“I love being in the hills and running through forest trails. It’s the space where you get to see things more clearly and where we can encourage and support each other. Running is my therapy and I want to share its powerful benefits with as many people as possible. My goal is to get more people running in nature and provide the best kit possible to help you on that journey.”

Anne joined UKFT looking for support on various topics. She explains: “I have found the team incredibly supportive so far, even learning a few things I had to do that I didn’t know I needed to do. I have a tonne to learn but I know I can reach out to the team at any time and their response is always super quick.

As for what she wants from the wider UK industry, she says: “We need to encourage more technical clothing/sportswear brands in the UK and enough to support an investment in manufacturing capabilities to supply this sector.”
