Member Spotlight: Black Dress Code

02/11/2020

UKFT member Black Dress Code is the first company to make a range of stylish clothes designed specifically to allow musicians the freedom to move and breathe to perform at their best.

Black Dress Code

A relatively new company, Black Dress Code knows that musicians and orchestra managers spend a lot of time ensuring a professional look for their performers. This is not an easy process because purpose-designed clothes have so far not been available.

Most professionals are able to step into a high-street store and find something that works for them as ‘office wear’. Professional and amateur musicians of all ages, on the other hand, had nowhere to go. The mother of a passionate musician, Black Dress Code founder Daniella has seen first-hand how busy musicians waste precious hours trying to find suitable concert wear. She has also seen that this is a global problem. Every musician in the world conforms to the same dress code for most of their performances and they all face the same supply problems.

Black evening styles are generally most available during the seasonal party months, when they tend to be sparkly and restrictive. Moreover, while we all love silk and satin, such fabrics crease easily and are not easy care.

Black Dress Code

Black Dress Code’s solution is a one-stop on-line shop of chic and timeless clothes that meet global orchestra dress code requirements year round. The company uses soft and breathable, easy-care fabrics that allow musicians to look good wherever they are.

All the range, aside from the shirts, are made in an ethical, family-run factory in Leicester. Shirts are ethically made in Portugal.

Responding to demand, Black Dress Code is now expanding its range into tailoring for men to allow them to perform comfortably in all temperatures. This is a sizeable project with ample scope for partnership to global expansion.
