British Textile Week 22: British Millerain
07/02/2022
Established in 1880, British Millerain began weather-proofing canvas for military and industrial applications using patented techniques. Today, the company continues to manufacture in England and is known as a leading specialist in waxed cotton, having pioneered the development of wax finishing in the 1900s. British Millerain’s dyeing and finishing machinery and processes have been customised using skills handed down thorough six generations of the Miller family.
The company has evolved with an ever-changing market and through more than a century of investment, developing a world-renowned range of bespoke textiles for outerwear and outdoor applications.

Sustainability has been the driving force behind British Millerain’s more recent product developments. Most notably, the company has expanded its Tekwax collection; a novel range of durable, dry wax textiles with exceptional water repellent properties. These specialist wax finished are completely free from the controversial PFC chemicals found in most water-repellent fabrics. In addition, all the woven cotton base fabrics are responsibly sourced from BCI (better cotton initiative) registered farms, with organic options available.
The company has seen an explosion in demand this year for its Tekwax Ranger and Tekwax Evolution fabrics, while traditional waxed cottons remain highly sought after.
